Redbourn Golf Club Juniors

Junior members information sheet

May I take this opportunity to extend a very warm welcome to you from us all at Redbourn Golf Club. This letter will inform you of the matches, tournaments and general play tee times that are available to the Redbourn junior section. Depending on your ability as a golfer we have many options to play fun and competitive golf.

Starting with the Wednesday evening roll up at 17.30 on the Kinsbourne par 3 course, (April 1st to September 30th), we will issue you with a handicap after your very first round. You may then enter into our par 3 stroke play medal competition on the last Wednesday of each month. Our winter league roll up starts on November 12th 2011 at 13.00 and runs to February 25th (Exceptions Dec 24th and 31st) 2012. The best six combined scores, gross and nett, will win a trophy.

When you can consistently achieve a score of 36 (gross) or less for the nine hole par 3 course you can sign up on the junior notice board in the club house to play the main 18 hole Ver course.

Each Sunday the junior committee reserve late morning tee times, (can vary) for juniors to play the main course. We organise a medal round (white tees) on the second Sunday in the month and a stableford match on the fourth Sunday in the month. Both medal and stableford rounds are for handicap adjustment and you can obtain your first handicap by playing in any 3 rounds. They cost £2 each to enter (unless playing to obtain a handicap) and a prize is given to the best nett and gross scores. (The best nett is the medal winner and the medal itself is presented on junior presentation evening.) In the stableford matches the player with the most points is the winner. There are also prizes for the best front and back nine.

Of course a junior member can sign up in the pro shop up to two weeks in advance to play the main course when ever and with whoever they like with the exception of Saturday and Sunday’s before midday

There is a pathway to county golf via the Hertfordshire Golf Partnership’s Futures Tour, seven par 3 tournaments played around the county and for older players 12 to 17 who are new to the game or have not yet reduced their handicaps significantly will be eligible to play on the all new i-tour also run by The Hertfordshire Golf partnership.

The junior section play in the following events. The Jeddah Cup league which is for juniors with main course handicaps from 18 < 36, these matches are for young or high handicap players and cost £5 each which covers prizes and a meal.

Lexus Hatfield Junior Golf league a fourball better ball match and the Ver league, singles matches feature juniors who generally have handicaps of 15 and below. These matches are played on a home and away basis against other junior sections from all over Hertfordshire. The cost of these matches is £5 per game to cover food.

A junior with a single figure handicap (9.4 and below) can play in the adult medal on the first full weekend in the month, but must play with an adult, (one adult one junior). Higher handicap juniors can play in the adult medal, (one adult one junior) but cannot play before midday on Saturday or Sunday. All juniors entering in an adult/junior co-sanctioned event will earn ‘junior order of merit’ points (JOOM) to win the Taylor-Wright Trophy at the end of the year.

We are here to help you along a crucial part of your pathway to a great future in golf and I look forward to seeing you on the fairways and in one of our Redbourn Junior teams of which I am immensely proud.
